Popular handgun red dot sights measured and listed

Here are a few popular optics we measured for a size comparison to the new Aimpoint COA. Using calipers, we measured what we perceived as the actual window size, not what the manufacturer puts as the window size on technical data sheets. This measurement can be subjective based on light conditions and eye sight.

Train with structure, train with people

Try to find like minded and training oriented people to practice with. Getting constructive feedback in a group setting can be invaluable for the growth of individual skills.

How to grip a handgun to manage recoil?

Many people think that you have to grip the hell out of your gun with both hands to control recoil.

Recoil is primarily controlled through your structure behind the gun. The grip is crucial because it connects your structure to the gun.

You can grip as hard as you want with your support hand but if you grip too hard with your shooting hand it can put tension in the wrong muscles preventing you from manipulating the trigger correctly. This is the reason that most people don't get consistent hits.

Train more. Take classes. Take notes!

When taking a class from someone (and you should), they only have so many days to cover a lot of new material. Sometimes it can feel like you are drinking out of a fire hose.

You likely will only internalize a few things throughout a class. Taking notes during a class is a great way to remember more things later.

If you just commit everything to memory you will likely forget a lot.

Train your trigger finger!

Fail in training, don't fail to train!

Don't be afraid to "fail" in training. You are not going to always have a perfect time or target when trying to get better.

Shooting like your life depends on it!

Optomise the suboptimum. What happens if you can't draw your gun, get the perfect grip and sight picture? What happens if your life depends on getting off a shot without any of these things? Have you practiced for this scenario?
